Sunland Expands Peanut Butter Recall

A recall of peanut and almond butter was announced by Sunland Inc. based in New Mexico, a recent report has revealed, after the product was linked to some salmonella illnesses. The company has now decided to expand the recall.

It has been found that the largest grocery stores around the world would now need to pull all store-brand products down their shelves, including tahini and roasted peanut products. The company says that cashew butters and blanched peanut products would also be on the recall list.

The suspects had come last month into picture that Trader Joe's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter manufactured by Sunland contains salmonella bacteria. The bug causing fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps within three days of infecting a person, has been found to be fatal for children.

Nut products and butters sold at Safeway, Fresh & Easy, Whole Foods Market, Sprouts and the like are also on recall. As per the findings, in all, the recall involves some 101 products. Since, 30 salmonella illnesses across 19 states have been reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It is being said that possibilities are there that other people with weak immune systems get infected in case proper and complete checks are not conducted timely.
