A panel of ecologists at the Ohio State University in Columbus has observed something far away from their imagination or belief, as per a recent report. It says that large carnivores are entering urban areas with better adjustments that one day they might follow urban coyotes.
It was previously believed that only little carnivores can reside in such areas, including cities. Also, only a few of them could survive in urban suburbs. But, the scenarios that came into front lately have forced them to change their views persisting since long.
Radio transmitting collars were used by Stan Gehrt and colleagues so as to track how much the coyote communities have progressed. The team was surprised to discover that they had enough of food sources to flourish. Also, unexpectedly, rural pups were surviving some five folds less as compared to coyote pups in the urban regions.
Almost 700 coyotes were studied and the review went long for some 12 years. It was seen that whether it is a mountain lion or a black bear, they roam and search for prey unless and until they are captured or shot.
Gehrt concluded, “We're finding that these animals are much more flexible than we gave them credit for and they're adjusting to our cities”.
As per a new study published today in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, patients of breast cancer are able to manage their pain and other symptoms better if they have family and friends on their side to support them. The study was done with an intention to study that how social support can affect the patient's quality of life.
