Kaitlyn Terrana is the girl who is been debilitated by a rare condition called Kleine-Levin syndrome or KLS. The age when she could have enjoyed some of the beautiful experiences of her life, she is suffering from this sleep syndrome that makes her sleep for 10 days at a stretch.

She does not remember anything about her 16th birthday or last birthday, her 17th one because she was sleeping on both the days. This illness traps her in a six-week cycle and she is left with no other choice but to stick to her bed.

Kaitlyn lives in Winona, Ont., near Hamilton. This illness is ruining her life; it’s a slow death for her. She says, "Kind of like the day before, I start feeling really tired and it's really hard for me to focus in class. And then after that, I'm just gone for 10 days. I have to sleep, I can't stay awake".

As told by her mom, Kathy Terrana, whenever she is in the phase of experiencing the sleeping cycle, she ensures that she is not left alone and therefore she keeps a continual check over her every time.

When this sleeping cycle begins, the patient feels tired and does not respond to anyone around. They are forcefully waken up to give foods and liquids or for urinating.
