Polaris to Search Water on the Moon’s Surface

At one side researchers of the NASA are working on the mission Mars and at the other side, researchers working on the mission Moon. Both the missions are crucial as researchers are hoping to get answers to their queries through them. It has been reported that Polaris prototype will soon be launched on the Moon by the researchers of the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute and Astrobotic Technology Inc.

The mission will be first of its kind as the rover will drill the surface of the Moon to collect the samples of ice like substance. For quite long, the researchers have doubted over the possibility of water on the Moon. There could be a possibility of water being on the surface of the Moon many years ago. The findings of the mission will help the researchers in drawing conclusion of whether or not life is possible on the Moon.

The CEO of Polaris, William, said that the rover thus launched in to space will be monitored by a computer that will help in determining the position of the rover on the Moon. William said, "Without GPS, Polaris will match surface pictures with satellite imagery taken by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to determine its location on the Moon".
