Mysterious giant eyeball washed up on Florida’s Pompano Beach

Earlier this week, the officials at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were handed over a mysterious softball-sized eyeball by a beachgoer who had discovered it on the Pompano Beach.

Going by the news reports describing the discovery of the giant eyeball, a mysterious eye – apparently belonging to a 20-25 feet long beast, probably a shark, squid, or an octopus – had washed up on the Florida beach, where it was found by a beachcomber on Wednesday.

After the finder of the massive eyeball had handed it out to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the officials at the commission put the mysterious eye on ice; and eventually transported it to the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida.

According to an NBCNews report, citing the information shared by the commission’s spokesperson Carli Segelson, genetic tests will be carried out to identify which kind of creature the eye belonged to; and the commission is hopeful that the results of preliminary tests will become available shortly.

Revealing that the possibility of the eye belonging to a squid can seemingly be ruled out because of the fact that there appeared to be some “bones around the eye,” Segelson said: “The primary suspect right now is that it would be a large fish,” probably tuna, swordfish, or deep-water fish.
