The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has praised the efforts of hospitals in Queensland. It is so because they have lowest elective surgery waiting times across the nation. The organization revealed the fact in their report meant for 2011-12 elective surgery waiting times.

While revealing the details of the same, it has been said that the hospitals have waiting times between 27 days in Queensland to 63 days in the ACT. The findings have also been unveiled to Health Minister Lawrence Springborg.

Springborg was found to be quite appreciative of the news, and affirmed that the hospitals authorities concerned should keep on making such efforts. So that they can deliver quality care within restricted time frame to patients.

Alison Verhoeven, who is the spokeswoman for the AIHW, was of the view that they are aware that the ACT has the longest waiting times. However, it shall also be noted that a lot of improvements have been seen in the waiting times of the ACT in past some years.

Chief Minister Katy Gallagher said, "We're seeing the median wait time come down, we're seeing the people who've waited too long for their operation come down, and we're managing our waiting list”.
