A group of researchers at the Mattel Children's Hospital of the University of California, Los Angeles, has been claiming after a new research that invasive procedures like forceps or hooks can be avoided in children as a mother's kiss is more effective in taking out foreign objects stuck in their children's nasal passages.
"The mother's kiss appears to be a safe and effective technique for first-line treatment in the removal of a foreign body from the nasal cavity", the Buxted Medical Centre's Dr. Stephanie Cook affirmed in the United Kingdom.
It is being said that children often get things like dried beans, seeds, cotton, erasers, crayons or paper wads, wedged in their nasal passages. The same causes them to suffer either irritation or breathing issues or even pain in their nose. But, they fear invasive procedures.
However, the mother's kiss technique involves covering the mouth of the kid with one's own mouth. Also, blocking the nostril with a finger and blowing with the mouth to create cover, the breath acts as suction and removes the foreign object.
Published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ), the report therefore suggests that people should follow this method, which does not result in bleeding or making the object go further in.
