At its "little" media event held at a refurbished movie theater in downtown San Jose, California, on October 23, Apple announced as many as five new hardware devices, including the much-rumored iPad Mini.

The new devices which were announced by Apple at the event included: iPad Mini; Mac Mini; iMac; fourth-generation iPad with Retina Display; and MacBook Pro 13 with Retina Display, which specifically highlighted the company's focus on the high end.

While the most awaited announcement of the day, by far, was that of the smaller tablet - the 7.9-inch iPad Mini -, the announcement of the new 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina Display was equally noteworthy, given the fact that it marks an expansion of Apple's high-end line of laptops.

The MacBook Pro 13 with Retina Display is a 3.57-pound notebook, with its most distinguishing feature being the 2560 x 1600 Retina Display which contains over 4 million pixels and has 300 percent of the screen resolution of the 13-inch MacBook Air.

The Retina Display of the newly-announced notebook is being touted as an "engineering marvel", with Apple claiming that the new Retina Display of the 13-inch MacBook Pro is the "second highest resolution notebook ever"; second only to the bigger 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

So far as the pricing of the 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina Display is concerned, the cost of the base model of the notebook is $1,700; while the high-end model of the notebook is priced at $2,000.
