Obesity in Teenage May become Cause of Kidney Failure When Adult

Obesity has always been linked to a number of serious illnesses, including heart attacks, high blood pressure and type2 diabetes. A team of researchers at the University of California, San Francisco has added to it something, which widens the concerns.

The team has discovered that the condition of obesity in teenage may become a reason of kidney failure in one's midlife. Some 1.2 million Israeli teens of age 17-year-old were enrolled in the study, which has been published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

All the participants were given medical exams before they could shift in military service of the country. Following them for 25 years, it was found that the ones who were obese as teens were more likely to need dialysis by three to seven times as compared to their pals.

While amongst people healthy as teens, some 2.32 end-stage kidney disease cases were noted, amid the ones who were obese, there were 6.08 cases. However, doctors say that the link is indirect, researchers suggest to pay attention.

"It's quite possible that the obese people were slightly more hypertensive and that does contribute, for sure, to the development and progression of kidney diseases", a San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center's nephrologist Kirsten L. Johansen, MD.
