Published in the Lancet journal, a study carried out recently into a global grant for malaria treatment by researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has acknowledged that it was highly controversial. The team says that the subsidy has helped in bringing a decline in the drug prices in many pilot schemes.
The AMFm had initially been launched by the Global Fund in seven African countries and the aim was to bring a reduction in the prices of drugs that are meant for treating malaria. As per the findings, the Affordable Medicines Facility for malaria (AMFm) was being questioned last week.
Oxfam condemns it saying that it focused on untrained shopkeepers for making the treatment available in rural communities.
The same led to an inquest, which is saying that the scheme has in a bout boosted treatment as well. However, health outcomes were not focused upon by the team. Though, the reason behind the same has been claimed the unavailability of date related to use of treatment. The team concludes that objections are fully ideological.
"We must acknowledge that an efficient approach to subsidising anti-malarial drugs has worked, making them available in the private sector where people go to buy them", the scientists were quoted as saying.
According to a new study, scientists have unraveled the mystery behind the sensation of itch. The scientists said that neurons that detect itch rely on a newly identified chemical that sends "I need to scratch" message to the brain. The study was conducted on mice.
