Cancer can be treated but the post effects that it leaves on the physical and mental health of an individual are quite disturbing.

According to researchers, among 12.6 million U. S. cancer survivors, there is around one-third who suffer from some or the other kind of physical or mental problem. And as a result their overall health gets badly affected.

When 10% adults without cancer reports physical health problems and 6% reports mental health problems, the ratio of cancer patients reporting the same is quite high. There are around 25% of cancer survivors who suffer poor physical health and 10% who experience poor mental health; as mentioned by lead author of this research, Kathryn Weaver who is also an assistant professor at Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, N. C.

He further said in a statement, "Until now, we didn't have clear data on quality-of-life issues for the population of U. S. cancer survivors. This information should help doctors and researchers identify groups of survivors who may be at risk for long-term problems after cancer".

Only this way, initiatives could be taken to offer a helping hand to them. This would not only improve life for cancer survivors but would also give a new ray of hope to many other cancer patients.
