F.C.C. Reports Storm Affects Communications Services

The Northeast has realized power systems failures throughout and a recent report reveals that the same has caused some 20% of the cell tower sites in 10 different states to face a shutdown. The power failures have been seen as a result of damage caused by a storm.

It has been found that some 20% of homes in the areas affected by the hurricane have faced service failure of wired broadband and cable television systems. And the reason behind the same is widespread power outages along with submerged equipment and wind damage.

The report also finds that millions of calls were found lost on Wednesday, as per the findings. Though, some services are being tried to be restored and a little progress has also been noticed. The percentage of affected services was realized at 25% on Tuesday.

But, it has been told by the Federal Communications Commission officials that the number of non-working cell tower sites has diminished by fewer percentage points, as noted on Wednesday morning.

"The crisis is not over. Overall, the condition of our communications networks is improving, but serious outages remain, particularly in New York, New Jersey, and other hard-hit areas", chairman of the F. C. C. Julius Genachowski was quoted as saying.
