It is only since sometime that the Large Hadron Collider has started doing science and today people are hearing the news of its heir, which is more likely destined for Japan.
Yes, sources are talking that the plans are already underway for Large Hardon Collider's successor, the International Linear Collider, or ILC, which will cost approx between $10 and $20 billion. Moreover, rumors are also airing that the host country of same will probably be Japan.
As all know, the LHC has been doing a stupendous job of colliding hadrons with each other i. e. the particles that are made up of several other particles like a proton, which is built from three quarks (two up quarks and a down quark) that are held together with gluons.
Its circular design has very well served in acceleration of hadrons for enormous energies and their efficient collision. But, the circular collider cannot serve the light particles like electrons because it will then result into a big loss of amount of energy that is used to try to accelerate the things.
The issue becomes really big with electrons, which are 1,836 times less massive than protons, which further result into a problem for synchrotron radiation.
Thus, linear acceleration is preferred to accelerate the lightweight charged particles called electrons and anti-electrons.
