EC Calls For Reforms After PIP Breast Implant Fiasco

It seems that the long running controversy surrounding the flawed PIP breast implant would take its due course of time to settle down. There are voices being heard that claim that more strict rules must be placed to ensure that such defected medical devices are not being regularly used for patients. If reports are to be seen, there are nearly 300,000 implants sold around the world and this is what has made things a lot difficult to manage.

In a recent report, even the European Commission has cited set of concern in reference to the same and has called for more strategic reforms to take place to change the rules made so far. There are reports that indicate that such medical devices must be regularly checked and given the desired level of scrutiny. Though nothing was said in context of removing the flawed PIP implants by concerned medical authorities, it is being said that women who have such breast implants must get them removed as soon as possible just to avoid any sort of risk. Nonetheless, efforts are being made to ensure that there is no significant effect of such implants on women. All those who have got such implants must get themselves checked from doctor to avoid any sort of risk.

If media reports are to be referred to, it has been found that private cosmetic companies are being pushed to remove all those flawed breast implants else consequences could be damaging. It is believed that the rules made to regulate Breast implants in Europe are being reviewed so that some significant changes could be derived out. Final review report of the same is expected to come out this year. “In order for a product to be placed on the market in the EU it needs to be given a CE mark to show it has reached health and safety standards”, said Frederic Vincent, health and consumer policy Spokesperson for the European Commission.
