The federal forecasters have brought both good and bad news for the country. They have predicted heavy snowfall and cold winds in a few parts of the country, including in Seattle, which is already giving sleepless to its people due to extreme cold conditions.

However, the places from the Arizona to the East Coast are said to be pleasant and warm. So, the forecasters have brought the news having the extreme ends. As far as Seattle and western US is concerned, they are going to witness such cold climate for next three months.

Such is the nature that one part of the country would be flooded with water and would be witnessing cold winds and hailstorm and other part of the country would have drought, sweaty summers. All this has started to witness in the southern tier of the US.

The main reason of such extremes is La Niña and its warmer cousin El Niño. La Niña is the cool swing that periodically swings in ocean-surface temperatures across the tropical Pacific. This leads to colder condition in the selective portion of the country.

The next is its warm cousin El Niño which is found in the area that are closer to tropics. This leads to draught and humidity in some parts of the country. Both works differently as La Niña forces the storm to strike back in Northern America and makes Southern part totally dry.

This time it is expected that the pattern would change and La Niña would not be that strong in the middle of the year. Last year, some parts of the country which faced its wrath in spring season as well were: Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. This led to total damage $55 billion.

Kathryn Sullivan, who is the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for environmental prediction, said that it would be too early to agree that La Niña would not create further pandemic.
