MPs Call For Regulating Cosmetic Industry

MPs Call For Regulating Cosmetic Industry

There is no second thought that the nearly one month old controversy surrounding the flawed PIP breast implants has caused enough stir in the industry, there are leading experts who are of the view that this is high time that the government must step in to make such cosmetic procedures regulated.

There are reports indicating that closing down the French company would not do any good for people and there is enough scope for things to be changed in the time to come. Even a review of cosmetic and plastic surgery regulation is being called by political class. Even the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has extended their support to any such move which could bring about positive change in the way the industry has been working so far.

Moreover, there are voices being heard to push for banning commercials for such medical procedures. It is being believed that such advertisements can make one lure towards uncalled for beauty procedures which could make things worse in the time to come.

“We understand MPs will review areas such as psychological counselling for cosmetic surgery patients and the unscrupulous marketing activities of many firms which take advantage of the young and the vulnerable”, said Consultant plastic surgeon and BAAPS President Fazel Fatah, who appreciated the government’s assurance about review of the lax regulations in the sector. It is becoming all in all more important for the government to make some substantial changes in the system which could make people more aware about the potential side effects of much publicized cosmetic procedures.

There are some lingering concerns at the bottom of the sector, and instead of overlooking them, there is need for them to be brought out and discussed. There are many corrupt companies which are doing many malicious acts on the name of make-over. It must be a prerogative of the government to take the much needed interest in such basic flaws and adopt corrective measures.
