It seems that it would take some time before Thorsten Heins, the newly appointed chief of Research In Motion Ltd, would be accepted by one and all. The Company which has been going through rough time for long had recently seen the departure of co-Chairmen and co-Chief Executives Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, and things have become quite uncertain from that time.
However, the man who had worked with the company since 2007 has managed to get some support from few of his colleagues who are of the say that he is perhaps the best fit for the position now. He has cleared the air about the Company being split up and has made it very clear that there would not be any drastic change in the way the Company has been managed so far. Mr. Heins is likely to follow the way Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis had been working.
"If there [are] requests coming towards Research In Motion to talk about licensing that platform to other companies, I will entertain those discussions. I will listen”, he said. However, this message seems to have not gone down well with the investors, as the shares of the company were seen going down by 8.5% to $15.56.
While there are expectations that there is need for the Company to bring in some significant changes to battle out the fierce competition posed by Apple Inc. and Google Inc, the soft stance taken by Mr. Heins has not been accepted pleasantly.
It has been known that the Company has seen its shares in U. S. smartphone market dipping by 10% and this is what has caused enough damage to the repute of the Company in the international market.
While market analysts would be seeing what all happens at Research In Motion with the change in leadership, it would be worth seeing how the 54-year-old man steers the giant from here on.
