Many women are in a habit of wearing heels, but only a few know about its ill effects on the health of a woman. In a recent study, it has been found that heels can lead to changed walking behavior.

The study was conducted by the Australian scientists. For the study, the scientists looked at the walking behavior of two groups: one who loved wearing heels and the other one which didn’t wear heels.

The researchers of the Griffith University asked participants to walk on 26-foot runway, which was underaid by the sensors. During the study, the scientists monitored the variation in the forces put by the women on their foot while walking. Moreover, the action of the joints and the muscles was also gauged.

The findings of the study have been published in the Journal of Applied Physiology. It has been pointed out by the researchers that the women with the habit of wearing heels have a neuromechanically adapted style of walking as compared to the non-heel walkers.

The researchers have suggested that the heel wearers should exercise for the calf muscles so that they could be attuned and can stay in shape. Heels are popularly worn by girls in their teens and the women till the age of 30.

Previous studies have showed that heels can damage one’s back and may lead to pain. They are considered to be uncomfortable and unstable. The chances of a woman tumbling down while wearing heels are high as it impairs the balance.

A change in the walking behavior can have serious consequences on the health of a woman. When women walk wearing high heels, the muscles of their legs don't get the needed comfort as compared to the comfort provided by wearing flat shoes.
