Virginia Set to Improve Services Provided to Disabled Patients

Efforts are being made incessantly by the authorities concerned to safeguard the rights of the disabled people. A trial on safeguarding of the rights of the disabled people has been going on at the Justice Department of Virginia. The Justice Department on Thursday reached a conclusion to protect the rights of the patients with developmental disabilities.

It has been concluded the patients with the developmental disabilities would be provided with legal rights. In the past, Virginia has been under criticism by the Americans with Disabilities Act for not providing the rights to the disabled.

It has been agreed by Virginia that it would be providing community services to about 5,000 patients with developmental disabilities. It has been decided that the patients would be provided with the most comfortable and desired services, so that the demands and the needs of the patients could be met with.

It has been informed that an amount of $60 million has been allocated for improving the services being provided to patients. The State Health and Human Resources Secretary, Bill Hazel, was reported saying, “What we're trying to do is to give people the opportunity to get into the most integrated setting possible and have some safety net there for those very few who, for whatever reason, would be unable to make that transition”.

It has further been informed that about 6,000 patients are on the waiting to avail the benefits of community-based services. It is hoped that the decision taken by the Justice Department would prove helpful in reducing the agony of the patients.

Although the decision has been taken to improve the services being provided to the patients, it would be revealed later only as to how much effective the decision is.
