Lumia Brings Hope for Nokia in Dual-SIM Smartphone Segment

It has been uncovered in a recent report that Nokia is hoping a boost in its sales with the introduction of its new phone, dubbed Lumia. It is being said that although the overall sales of Nokia Corp. have fallen down by a considerable rate, it has seen a good start with its Windows -based Lumia handsets.

The report has found that shipment of Nokia’s smartphones had faced a momentous fall from 31% to 19.6 million in its holiday quarter. Also, it was noticed that it failed to compete with the Apple iPhone and Google Android software smartphones.

It was revealed that Apple’s iPhone shipments had risen and had almost doubled up to 37 million, while Nokia’s Symbian software failed and its shipments reduced to 19.6 million. In this context, Chief Executive of Nokia Corp. Stephen Elop has introduced a new strategy of Windows software with an aim to regain its market share.

In order to achieve his target and for notifying the sale of one million Lumia handsets, he has also announced that the organization would be introducing the same in international markets as well along with the introduction in the domestic market. This has been decided by him in order to increase their sales in the year 2012.

But, considering its competition with the Chinese manufacturers of smartphones, they would be selling comparatively less number of handsets as decided previously, he said.

Along with it, the company would soon propose its Director Risto Siilasmaa to act as the chairman of the board as the present chairman Jorma Ollila would be leaving his position this year.

“While we progressed in the right direction in 2011, we still have a tremendous amount to accomplish in 2012 in order to properly position Nokia for sustainable long-term growth”, he added.
