There are many incidents which have triggered the need for having some way out to clean up the oil spill mess and on the same lines, a recent study has developed a soap which could do the same. The soap is told to have the magnetic properties which could clean up the damage done by oil spills.
It had been known that among the worst oil spill accidents, 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico was the most prominent. This is the incident which created the need of devising a potential system to clean up the mess the oil spill can create. Besides the damage done to the aquatic life, the oil spill is told to have made things a lot difficult.
The chemical found in the mess had destroyed the habitat of many aquatic organisms. The new found product is told to be a kind of detergent which would remove the impurities in the water. It was made possible by the efforts made by the University of Bristol, which added iron-rich salts to develop create "metallic centers within the soap particles”. The team then added the solution formed to water kept in a test tube. Later, a piece of magnet was used to dominate both gravity and the surface tension of the water so that the dirt could be separated.
Moreover, it has been made clear by the lead researcher Julian Eastoe that this could also be used for other purposes. Though one would not find it on shelves of supermarket, it is found to be something highly commendable to have found.
There is need that more and more work is being done to cater to deal with range of environmental disasters which at times make irreparable damage on human life.
