As per recent reports, it has been revealed that the latest mission launched by NASA to Mars has gone through a welcome astonishment this week. NASA officials have revealed that the spacecraft has gained great support from an extremely colossal solar storm that permitted it to gauge the radiation that a human astronaut may well have been exposed to during his way to the Red Planet.

Earlier on Sunday, a massive coronal mass ejection sprouted out from the facade of the sun, thereby disgorging a huge charged-particle cloud in the direction of the spacecraft. As a result, it caused a strapping "S3" solar storm. The event, which is being termed as the biggest of its kind ever since 2005, was illustrated by an animation of the CME developed by NASA Goddard Space Weather Lab. The animation showed the impact of disturbance on Mars, Earth and on several other spacecrafts. As per reports, solar storms are capable of affecting the aurorae of Earth, air travel, GPS systems and satellites. However, no adverse consequences have been reported as of now to the Mars Science Laboratory due to the recent solar activity.

While describing the entire event along with explaining the influence it can have on the future of the project or the spacecraft, Southwest Research Institute’s science program director in the Space Studies Department and RAD Principal Investigator, Don Hassler, said: “RAD was designed to characterize radiation levels on the surface of Mars, but an important secondary objective is measuring the radiation during the almost nine-month journey through interplanetary space to prepare for future human exploration”.

RAD is a highly imperative link connecting the science and exploration aspects of NASA.

The event is being claimed to be the largest solar particle activity ever transpired after 2005, and it has been spotted by the radiation-monitoring gadget installed on the spacecraft of Mars Science Laboratory that is heading towards the Mars for one of NASA’s most ambitious space exploration missions ever.
