As per reports, it has got revealed that the Ernie Miller Nature Center is going to take part in the nationwide birding event known as the Great Backyard Bird Count. It is the fifth time that the centre is going to take part in the nationwide birding event.

The event is scheduled to take place on February 18 from 9am to 4pm. Some of the birds which are expected to be seen at the event are American goldfinches, red-tailed hawks, black-capped chickadees and northern cardinals and more.

Bird lovers would also get an opportunity to gain more knowledge about the birds from renowned birders who would be present at the event. This is the first time that no registrations are being done for the show.

The event organizers have also started a helpline where one could call to know details about the programme and could also know about the event by visiting the center’s website. It shall however be noticed that the centre’s another main motive to take part in the event is to seek donation from viewers.

A lot of money is being spent on birds and they hope to raise funds through this event, said one of the authorities concerned. Bird viewers would also be allowed to feed birds, but it would be a paid activity. Some of the things which could become feast for birds are black oil sunflower seed, white millet, thistle, or safflower seed and raw unsalted peanuts and dried seed corn.

Laura Kroon, who is County Department of Parks and Recreation Park Naturalist, advised, “It’s really helpful to have binoculars so that you can see field marks (identifying features such as bars on the wings or stripes on birds’ heads) which help you make a positive identification”.
