Homebirths Campaigner Dies in Hospital after Giving Birth at Home

It seems that it would take some more time before the debate over the unexpected death of the mother of a newly born would die down. Caroline Lovell was a known name among people as she had been firm believer in homebirths.

Giving birth to her baby at home, she died in hospital. The reason of the death of the 36-year-old mother was told as cardiac arrest. This case has trigger the debate about how safe are homebirths actually? She has always been promoter of homebirths, but later she herself lost her battle in hospital.

While there are good chances of one dying in hospital while delivering, it is being said that hospitals are still safe for both the mother and her baby in case any unwarranted concern affects either of the two. If Dr Ted Weaver, from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, is to be heard, it was found that there are as many as 50% of the first time pregnancies trying to make it at home being dealt in hospitals in the end for some or the other complication.

There is need for one to be flexible for both the options but there must not be any compromise made on the health and safety of the baby and the mother. There are many who have their own reasons not preferring hospitals, but any suspected complication must be addressed and not overlooked.

It was told that Ms. Lovell was of the view there is need for the Federal Government inquiry to come to action and pay heed to their concerns else they would be left with limited choice to have unassisted births at home.

The brave woman is being remembered by her closed ones as a beautiful, caring and inspiring mother. “May your peace and beauty live on through your beloved girls, and your love and spirit continue to bring strength to your family and friends”, said one of the online tributes for the mother of two.
