It has been recently revealed in a report that doctors in Ontario tend to earn as much as $ 8 billion each year. That is a huge pay slab they get! In a recent revelation, their salaries have been revised and they are to receive an increment of $4.3 billion in the next 17 years time. This has been given to them after negotiations regarding the same.

What is striking is that the salary they are receiving is about 20% of the health budget, as revealed by a research conducted by the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in the year 2010. They have received a boost of $4.3 billion in their scales and this is extremely favorable for them.

It was revealed that the Liberal government had to take these desperate steps of increasing the pay scales of doctors by huge limits, so that they could be stopped from moving to greener pastures in the future. They have lucrative offers waiting for them elsewhere and it’s a matter of time before the doctors would start to look for better career and growth opportunities for themselves and start moving ahead of this job.

“I believe doctors are actually better positioned than anyone to understand what the challenges are in health care,” “The doctors I talk to see the need in other parts of the health-care system, wouldn’t put physician compensation at the top of their priority list”, said Health Minister Deb Matthews.

It remains to be seen how the government expects to run the rest of the healthcare system, after giving these huge salaries to the doctors. This, however, doesn’t mean that the doctors would stop looking for career advancement opportunities.
