All those who want to participate in the March 20 General Primary Election can register themselves by Tuesday, as the authorities have announced Tuesday to be the last day for registration.
“If they haven’t registered yet, they can come by on the 21st and still be able to vote on March 20”, said Ms. Connie Simmons. “The courthouse is closed on the 20th for President’s Day, but the Business Women’s Club will be holding a voter registration drive from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. on Monday and people can come by during that time”, the County Clerk and Recorder further added.
Ms. Simmons also guided residents to bring their identification proof, birth date proof and address proof to get their votes registered. Voting will start from Wednesday, enabling residents to participate in a grace period registration and voting, Simmons said.
Explaining the above voting situation, Simmons added that residents can come in and change their registration (if they want) and vote but this would be allowed only if they have legal identification proof of themselves.
Another voting way that has been organized by the authorities is the grace period registration, wherein the officials will mail residents a ballot on which they can do grace period registration and vote their decision up to one week before the final election time.
Regarding the situation, Illinois State Board of Elections cleared that the grace period registration and voting facility have been specially allowed this time for all residents who unfortunately never registered to vote, or have failed to change their name or address by the deadline. With the help of this registration technique, residents can make changes even after the deadline.
