Buy More Video Games, Says Computer Scientist

A group of researchers at the Wake Forest University in North Carolina has revealed after a new study that video games could be helpful in treating cancer, a new report says. The study published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society has shown that the technology used in video games is widely helpful for research into cancer cure.

The team at the University has told after conducting a study that it would be extremely helpful in developing improved cancer-fighting drugs. As per the report, the team made use of graphics processing units that are used in video game consoles and studying the same led them to find out how cancer cells tended to grow in a human.

Samuel Cho, who is a biophysicist and computer scientist, has reported that the new discovery could not have been possible without video game players. He told that it was them who provide him with graphics cards and make the simulations possible at cheaper prices.

Cho told that RNA molecule simulation, which is a component of the human telomerase enzyme, was created by him. The enzyme is found in cancer cells only and it works by adding tiny molecules to the dividing DNA strands. It prevents them from dying, he said. He has thus been able to conclude that the technology was helpful for curing illnesses, the report says.

It has been told by the team that the graphics processing units helped them to render high-quality realistic-looking images, thereby helping them to study the activity of cancer deeply. This included the way cancer lived, divided and grew itself, increasing risk of fatalities in patients. “I realize this is a very selfish thing to want, but I really want people to buy more video games. Basically, you're taking a hit for science”, he said.
