Norovirus Leads to Closure of another Ward in South Wales’ Hospital

Another ward of Dundee's Ninewells Hospital has been hit by the norovirus because of which the ward has been closed to new admissions for some time, says a latest report. After previous complaints of the infection in different wards of few hospitals, the virus has recurred in a new ward in the Ninewells Hospital.

It has been found that the hospital has declared the closure of the ward because of fear of the virus to spread further. Hospital chiefs have announced that no new admissions would be allowed for some time as well as have been urging patients’ friends and family not to visit the hospital until the threat is over.

The hospital has requested any one with the symptoms of virus such as diarrhoea or vomiting to avoid visiting patients, particularly in A&E departments. As the virus has been found to be highly contagious, health experts have warned people, including friends and family members of patients, to visit the hospital only if there is an urgent requirement or emergency.

It is being said that three other wards had been shut previously due to the same reason and a fourth ward that was put to shut on Tuesday has been recently reopened. Seeing the large number of victims, the health board has suggested people to wash their hands thoroughly before and after visiting any ward.

The health board has told the reporters that apt infection control measures have been taken so as to prevent the winter vomiting bug from spreading further. Also, it has equally been told by it that virus’s victims would most probably recover within a few days. Those who are at risk of getting the same should consult a pharmacist or NHS Direct earlier as possible though, said Dr Tony Jewell, Wales Chief Medical Officer.
