Trial Drug MRK003 Seems Good for Handling Pancreatic Cancer

In what may well turn out to be a godsend for large number of people suffering from potentially terminal pancreatic cancer all over the world, it has recently been revealed by scientists that it seems like they have stuck gold in terms of finding a novel and highly effective weapon to combat the precarious pancreatic cancer.

The statements were made following the early trials of the drug which ended up showing highly promising results on account of the fresh drug combination.

Giving the important chemotherapy mediator “Gemcitabine” with a trail drug dubbed MRK003 is said to effectively set off a sequence of happenings that finally hold the potential of killing cancer cells, as revealed by the study which was carried out on mice to gauge the levels of efficiency of the experimental drug.

As of now, patients are testing the therapy to have a look at its functioning and efficiency.

The trails conducted for measuring the efficiency of the novel drug, which were monetarily backed by the Cancer Research UK, are still going on in Cambridge.

While expressing his opinion regarding the promising development in prospect, a 41-year-old father-of-two, Coventry-based Richard Griffiths said that he has been on the experiment ever since he was diagnosed with lethal pancreatic cancer earlier in May 2011.

He further adde3d, “After six cycles of treatment, a scan showed the tumors had reduced and so I have continued with the treatment. The trial gives you hope - I really feel I can do this with the science behind me”.

In this regard, it has been claimed by Cancer Research UK that it is heavily placing priorities on the research in the field of pancreatic cancer, more because the rate of survival in this segment is still dismally on the lower side when compared to various other common forms of cancer.
