5 Year Old New Jersey Girl Moves Ahead For Recovery

It seems that the controversy surrounding the bone marrow transplant of a 5-year-old New Jersey girl is almost finished. The girl is told to have started living her normal life after she went through the operation successfully last month at Hackensack University Medical Center.

While Yarelis Bonilla came out of the hospital on Monday, she was greeted with warm wishes from one and all. The case caught the media glare after it was told that her sister, who was perfect match for her, was denied visa twice. Her sister was living in El Salvador, but struggled a lot to get the visitor visa to the US. Soon the Seven-year-old Gisselle Bonilla Ramirez managed to get the visa and the girl could be operated on.

It was only on humanitarian grounds that she could manage to help her sister. It was quite a difficult time for the family as they were denied twice for the same and even media escalated pressure to make sure that the girl deserves the right treatment. “She was very lucky to have a matched sibling donor; those are the patients who usually do the best”, said Dr. Alfred Gillio, who performed the transplant. She has been staying in the same hospital for the last six months, and there are fair chances that she would be soon living her life normally.

The brave girl is told to have spent as many as 28 days, in activities like art projects, computer typing to make sure that she gains the momentum to get back her life.

While her sister, Gisselle Bonilla Ramirez, is pleased that she is able to help her sister after such a long delay, it would be worthy seeing how the patient comes back to her normal life. There are fair chances that she would be able to resume her school soon.
