Dementia Cases Rise By 1,000 In The North-East

In a recent report, it has been revealed that there is an increase of one thousand people last year in the category of dementia patients. While there is so much being said about the rising concerns attached with dementia, it has been believed that there are still many people being diagnosed.

The report from the Alzheimer’s Society show that in comparison to 14,000, there are 15,000 reported to be suffering from the disease. This report has once again made clear that there is still lot to be done to control the situation. There are as many as 17,500 people in the region that are living with the condition, but unfortunately they are not being given the deserving medical attention or any benefits attached.

While it is told that early diagnosis can reduce the agony of patients, it has been found that largely people have struggled to decipher the symptoms of the disease.

“Everyone is a little bit forgetful now and again, but when memory loss starts to interfere with your daily life it is important to get it checked out as soon as possible”, said Caroline Burden, manager for Alzheimer’s Society in the North East, who is shocked to know that there are so many people who are suffering with the disease. It is necessary that one must not overlook the primary symptoms and consult their GPs for the same before it’s too late.

While there was an increase of 5% seen in diagnosis rate in Redcar and Cleveland PCT, there was a decrease of 1% seen in Stockton on Tees Teaching PCT. There is need to understand why there is glaring difference in the diagnosis rate of the disease in the region.

While the shocking figures are making rounds, it is necessary that corrective measures are being taken to support the dithering situation.
