Recession Instigates Stress

While there is no doubt that hectic working lifestyle of people is affecting their health, there is a lot one has to go through if they are witnessing recession as well. A recent study by researchers at the University of Nottingham and University of Ulster claimed that the stress related to work could increase by as much as 40% if recession is going on.

In addition, there has been an increase of 25% witnessed in people who take offs during recession, thereby making it clear that recession adds on to the health woes of people. While the economic downturn is affecting industries across the world, the workers who are grilling themselves are encountering all in all a different stress.

There is need for such stress related concerns to be attended so that there can be something done for those who are at the receiving end. It is nothing less than an alarming signal for companies so that they can understand that they need to take care of their employees.

If The Society of Occupational Medicine is to be heard, there is need for companies to adopt some corrective measures so that they can attend to the woes of their employees. "Occupational health provision is even more important in times of recession as specialists can help with the stress caused by mounting workloads, organizational change and job uncertainty”, said Dr. Henry Goodall, President of the Society of Occupational Medicine, who is of the view that companies must learn how to deal with unavoidable stress. It would not only help them attend their employees’ woes but would make them improve the working environment.

In order to reach at the conclusion, survey of tens of thousands of civil servants in Northern Ireland was done in 2005 and then in 2009. It made them underline how recession has affected the stress level of the working class.
