NASA Promises Job Retention to JPL Employees

As per recent reports, it has revealed that number of people working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory will lose their jobs as the Federal Government has planned to cut a considerable amount from the budget.

NASA budgetary report unveiled that $300 million funding will be scrapped, which means hundreds of people at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory are going to lose jobs. NASA Head Charles Bolden visited JPL’s Mars Science Laboratory and met the team. Bolden has promised the employees that he will try his best that no one loses his job.

Reduction in the budget also means that NASA will not be able to execute two future Mars robotic exploration missions. New job applications open every time for Mars mission programee. However, when no Mars mission is there then that means there will no new job openings. This will further intensify the job cut effect.

Bolden has announced that they are trying that Mars mission does not get cancelled so that JPL employees do not lose their jobs. He hinted that they might plan a new Mars mission program, which will be launched between 2018 and 2020.

“It’s really critical as we work with international partners, and work with academia and industry, to decide what is the type of program we’re going to have to replace [the canceled missions] — how do we best craft it so we don’t miss that window”, said Bolden.

JPL Director Charles Leachy said that there are possibilities that some other NASA projects come their way. However, for now nothing has been specified to them. He further affirmed that they are not going to bring any change in their work and would continue to work like this till next fiscal which starts from October.
