Artificial Hip Replacements Failing More and More People

Artificial Hip Replacements Failing More and More People

Hold on and read the news that follows if you are thinking to get your hip replaced with an artificial one made of metal or similar materials.

The increasing failure rates of hip replacement cases with artificial metal-on-metal devices have forced the doctors to once again consider if it is really a viable option for the patients to get their hips replaced with artificially created ones.

Earlier known to be a durable option for hip replacements, metal devices are not showcasing good results with a majority of failure cases, which is forcing the doctors to rethink before replacing a patient’s hip with the artificial hip made out of a metal substance.

One failure case in the list is of Ms. Terri Wagner-Morley, who was earlier seen hopeful with her new right hip but soon began feeling pain in the same corner with her problem getting worse rather than any relief.

Ms. Morley expected relief from her chronic arthritis pain with her new DePuy metal-on-metal ASR hip implantation (performed in the year 2008), which initially allowed her to regularly exercise and lose her weight slightly but after sometime she started feeling a pop in her hip. After this, she soon reported of severe pain, so much so that the pain was not even allowing her to move properly.

Moreover, she also regained all her weight back by the end of year 2009 with marking an earlier failure of her replacement surgery than was actually supposed to be.

"It felt great. I could move again”, she said. Her weight dropped from 219 pounds to 165 in a year.

Alike Ms. Morley, there are thousands of similarly affected patients in the United States who are suffering severely after getting their hip replaced with an artificial one. The concerns of the health authorities have grown deeper regarding the damage seen from metal-on-metal hip replacement procedures.
