As per recent reports, it has been revealed that a team of scientists from the Los Alamos National Laboratory, which is well known as a subsidiary of the US Department of Energy, recently made use of a supercomputer for the purpose of seeing whether or not an asteroid cursing towards the Earth can result in getting destroying by a powerful nuclear weapon, similar to the one in Armageddon of the Michael Bay. The results, as per the experts, were indeed promising and encouraging.
While expressing his opinion in this regard, along with mentioning what all consequences it can have in the time to follow, scientist Bob Weaver said: “Ultimately this 1-megaton blast will disrupt all of the rocks in the rock pile of this asteroid. And if this were an Earth-crossing asteroid, would fully mitigate the hazard represented by the initial asteroid itself”.
And as a result, the whole procedure would be far simple as compared to Armageddon, since the nuke does not require being deposited deep down under the asteroid. The blast, as per experts, must only be restricted to the surface.
Weaver further stressed on the fact that nuclear bombs will most probably be used only in terms of the last option, seeing that the blast may have result in having a world of negative consequences, with the most severe of them being those responsible for sending a small space hail rocks to Earth rather than a solitary one. Before even giving that option a thought, a range of other asteroid protection techniques must be used, like changing the gravity of the rock in pulling it into an altogether different direction.
“But if you take one thing from this research... it should be that Bay was right. Now let's just hope he wasn't right about Transformers”, the reports claimed.
According to a new study, scientists have unraveled the mystery behind the sensation of itch. The scientists said that neurons that detect itch rely on a newly identified chemical that sends "I need to scratch" message to the brain. The study was conducted on mice.
