With the launch of an extensive and high-profile study about the Mediterranean Diet, it has been revealed that nuts, olive oil and fish play a vital role in enhancing and improving the quality of one's life.
As said by Dr. Donald Hensrud, a physician and professor of preventive medicine at nutrition at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, "The devil is in the details in terms of a diet, culturally. Is applying a Mediterranean Diet in Spain the same as applying it here? Probably not".
It is sad to know that despite of showing several benefits of a Mediterranean Diet, there are a large number of people who still are not giving it a thought. While carrying this study, a large number of trials were carried out and many related aspects were analyzed and reviewed thoroughly.
Two groups were made; one was asked to follow a low-fat diet, while the other was given a Mediterranean diet including nuts and olive oil. As a result, those on Mediterranean diet were found to be at a lower risk of cardiovascular diseases and other lethal problems as compared to those on a low-fat diet.
By replacing fried food and red meat in favor of chicken, fresh fruits, salads, vegetables, fish, olive oil and nuts, a major difference could be made to one's health for long term.
